Meta is looking for a Director & Associate General Counsel, Content & Compliance, to support Meta’s EMEA & APAC content legal teams. This includes leading the teams responsible for providing legal counsel to Meta’s content compliance function, whose responsibilities include meeting the compliance obligations under the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA) and Online Safety Bill (OSB). Our ideal candidate would be an experienced, motivated legal and compliance expert, a strategic leader, and a team builder with deep knowledge of the evolving global content regulatory landscape. You will have a deep understanding of compliance, risk management, and/or regulatory engagement strategy, as well as a strong executive presence and ability to influence internally and externally. Director & Associate General Counsel, Content & Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Lead a legal team responsible for partnering with the compliance function and policy in regulatory engagement matters across EMEA and APAC (e.g., with the EC (DSA) and Ofcom (OSB))
  • Drive subject matter expertise (SME) with respect to the legal requirements under content regulations, such as the DSA & OSB
  • Oversee regional and country-specific counsel for content regulations and related activities, such as escalations of illegal content reports and support of public policy teams
  • Develop and execute a strategy for business-as-usual regulatory engagement to build and sustain regulatory trust across applicable content regulation regimes
  • Collaborate with other departments on regulatory filings, inquiry responses, and regulatory interactions, ensuring regulatory-required milestones and engagement is appropriately tracked
  • Lead a diverse team, including in-region attorneys, providing mentorship, guidance and career development to enable high-performance, efficiency, and inclusion
  • Engage in strategic long-term planning and efficient goal-setting projects to improve content practices and enhance Meta’s content compliance programs with respect to other content-related laws and obligations



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience including at a law firm or prior in-house experience
  • Qualified to practice law
  • Significant experience in regulatory engagement or in-house counseling
  • Interpersonal experience in interfacing with all levels of partners and stakeholders, but particularly with senior-level executives
  • Communication, leadership, and management experience liaising with internal and external audiences such as regulators and auditors
  • Business-oriented understanding of risks, controls, and issues within content regulation or other regulated domains
  • Outstanding business judgment and client counseling experience
  • Inclusive Leadership experience building capabilities and developing high performing teams
  • Ability to lead and execute in a matrixed delivery model (i.e. lead across orgs with authority)
  • Ability to work and communicate successfully and respectfully in a multicultural environment
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach to solving problems
  • Analytical thinking with an outcome-based approach and prioritization experience to deliver on time while juggling numerous responsibilities



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with content-related regulations
  • Experience within a technology, regulatory, or consulting sector, or a combination thereof
  • Experience working with or in support of diverse communities
