Due to an expansion in our service there is an excellent opportunity for highly motivated Registered Nurses to join our multidisciplinary team in Interventional Radiology Theatres at the City site.
As a Registered Nurse in Interventional Radiology Theatres you will be responsible for supporting your line manager in delivering safe and high quality nursing care to our patients who are undergoing interventional procedures. The ideal candidates must be team players, who are flexible, adaptable and with the drive to go that extra mile for our patients.
With an excellent senior nurse team in place we are able to offer a supportive learning environment; you will receive a comprehensive induction programme supported by experienced members of the team and an 8 week supernumerary period.
The service is currently Mon-Fri with on call cover for out of hours.

Work alongside radiologist as a “scrub nurse” with invasive radiological procedures such as angioplasty, embolisation, stenting and biopsies.
Provide pre and post-operative care in recovery and supporting interventional work in CT and ultrasound.
Demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills.
Be an effective role model and provide regular excellent clinical care
Ensuring a safe environment is maintained.
Develop individualized care plans based on each individual patient's condition.
Ensure that all nursing activities are carried out in accordance to individual patient care plan.
Maintaining accurate documentation.
Ensuring infection prevention policies are maintained.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Job specific
To work flexible hours – particularly covering a late finish and providing an out of hours on-call nursing service, as required by the department to meet the needs of providing patient care.
To participate in the “link nurse” programme i.e. Diabetic and Infection Control
Have an understanding of local safety rules, protective clothing and equipment, (including wearing a lead apron for several hours at a time,) with regards to working in an area using radiation.
Following a protocol for Radiology, nurses are required to administer IV sedation to patients undergoing specific procedures, such as Mechanical Thrombectomy, Trans jugular liver biopsies, PTC’s (Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram) and Radiological Inserted Gastrostomy.
To assist the Radiologist as “scrub nurse” with invasive radiological procedures such as angioplasty, embolisation, stenting and biopsies.
To perform post procedural care and observations on the sedated patient
Take on the Co-Ordinator's role (as per rota), by being responsible, with Sisters’ support, for the daily running of the Interventional Radiology Theatres – coordinating procedure lists, allocating staff and making any necessary changes to patient lists in consultation with the Radiographers and Radiologists.
To be responsible for maintaining pharmacy stock within the Department.
To work in other areas of the Department as required, ie CT, MRI, Bariums and Ultrasound
