About the job

Job summary

A patent attorney working within the Policy, Protection and Exploitation Team within Defence Intellectual Property Rights (DIPR), working alongside one other patent attorney managing the patent portfolio and associated licensing activity.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

Joint management of the Ministry of Defence’s patenting and technology licensing functions. Joint responsibility for managing MOD’s patent portfolio, including invention harvesting, patent prosecution, maintenance and renewals, exploitation activities and enforcement. Provision of policy, training and guidance on the protection and exploitation of MOD inventions and related intellectual property. Provision of relevant IP services to OGDs, as required.

All patent attorneys with the MOD are expected to post rotate over time so the successful candidate must recognise that they will be required to get involved in all areas of DIPR’s work. Longer term, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in the intellectual property aspects of contracts advice and intellectual property policy setting areas of DIPR, which entails provision of a far broader range of intellectual property advice well beyond what a patent attorney would usually cover. It is therefore essential that the successful candidate has an interest in developing their skill set further rather than only covering patents work. It is an interesting opportunity for a patent attorney looking to add further strings to their bow.
