The Department of Vector Biology at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is one of the largest of its kind with a broad portfolio of research and technical assistance activities targeted at improving the control of insect borne diseases. They are actively seeking a Research Technician to conduct high throughput screens to look for inhibitors of insecticide resistance mechanisms and conduct biological assays to validate hit compounds.

Please note that you will be required to work on Saturday morning as part of a rota (approx. 1 in 5 weeks)

As a Research Technician, you will be responsible for (not limited to):

• Leading the implementation of high throughput in vitro screening and performing quality control on the results received
• Preparing and maintaining adequate laboratory records of methods, sample details and results
• Preparing written data reports and PowerPoint presentations for line manager and funders
• Supporting the maintenance of mosquito lines, including transgenic mosquitoes to ensure there is a steady supply of mosquitoes for experiments

The candidate will also ideally demonstrate:

• Higher education qualification in relevant subject
• Experience of high throughput assays and of working with live biological material
• Strong numeracy and analytical skills with the ability to collate data and accurately conduct basic data analysis, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to research group members and visitors
