Job Description

Our Sales Apprentice program is an immersive and interactive learning experience led by a skilled sales leader who will provide guidance, instruction, and feedback to the apprentice, enabling them to meet the demands of their future sales position. The program will teach the apprentice how to boost sales, infiltrate markets, and maximise profits for both themselves and the company.

Furthermore, they will acquire skills to tackle various challenging aspects of marketing, such as elucidating the technical features of products and services to potential clients, selling against formidable competitors, and dealing with customer perceptions that impact business outcomes. Over the 2 year apprenticeship, the apprentice will acquire proficiency in all areas of sales and experience a sense of personal accomplishment as they achieve weekly, monthly, and yearly targets while growing within the organisation.

What will I do as Sales Apprentice?

The basic responsibility you will have as an apprentice is to represent our products to all customer accounts in a designated geographic territory. Their purpose is to obtain optimum distribution of products by reaching and exceeding their performance objectives. You will manage the company’s business in each territory, almost as if it was their own, and they coordinate efforts with the sales representative to which the report as well as the Regional Manger.

The job is best viewed in terms of the functions that are required in order to fill this basic responsibility. The 5 functional elements of the sales job are:

1. Develop New Markets and Accounts

This activity requires:

  • Intensive investigation of the area;
  • Development of plans and strategies for maintaining and increasing business
  • Implementing the plans and strategies,
  • Concentrating on new account proposals and presentations;
  • Adjusting selling techniques to fit market opportunities;
  • Enhancing company reputation to the public.

2. Control the Financial Aspects of Selling

  • Selling requires managing prices, resisting competitive pressure to lower them, and negotiating the best prices by providing financial options to customers while keeping pricing confidential.

3. Provide Leadership and Good Management Practices

  • The job is not only selling, but also managing a territory. This is accomplished by representing Garland to customers so as to enhance the company image and gain confidence and respect of the account. The consistent demonstration of ethical conduct, honesty and integrity are essential.

4. Demonstrate “Motivated” Behaviour

  • Success is based on consistent hard work which includes the ability to make numerous cold calls, overcome rejection, and effectively cope with high pressure situations.

5. Manage Marketing Efforts

  • Much selling begins with generating ideas, forecasts, plans, solutions to customer problems, and getting a customer to use a “pilot order.” This analytical/thinking activity is followed by effective goal attainment through performance and time management - by doing the things that optimise the ratios of calls-to-interview-to-proposals-to-sales ratios, qualify prospects, obtain new business, and build customers’ confidence in our quality and technical know-how.

This is a level 4 Apprenticeship and you would obtain an NVQ level 4.

Salary: £22,206.24-£23,862.63 per year
