Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Signaller to join our Rail in Treforest.

A Signaller plays an important part in managing the operation of the Signalling workstation on a shift basis, maintaining that all operating standards and procedures are adhered too. Manage the operation of train services to deliver the highest standards of safety and train performance

The standard hours of work are 35 hours per week.

You will be responsible for:

  • Manage the safe & efficient operation of the Signalling equipment under their control.
  • Adhere to the Rule book, procedures, Instructions & Train Regulation policies ensuring correct train signalling and regulation as required.
  • Advise and update Rail personnel, customers and contractors on relevant operating & train service information, to facilitate a high standard of train performance.
  • Ensure appropriate procedures are applied prior to, during and after engineering work by personnel and contractors to provide the safe and correct operation of trains, engineering functions and protection arrangements of engineering works.
  • Maintain a log of incidents and unusual occurrences. Provide written reports into incidents and investigatory interviews as required.
  • Arrange short notice cover for sickness, absence, etc, when no clerical support is available, ensuring compliance with AIW guidelines.
  • Respond to mishaps, carry out emergency procedures and alert the appropriate agencies. Direct designated staff in exceptional situations to optimise safety and efficiency.
  • Oversee that safety standards are maintained.
  • Partake in Signallers assessment process and provide evidence for the Signallers achievement record work-books, completing the appropriate sections and taking necessary actions as required.
  • Maintain the Signalling Centre security.

What makes this role unique is

You’ll have Sole/dual responsibility for provision of managing efficient operation of the Signalling equipment under their control. Managing train movements and train timetables with ability to stop trains running circa 500 + trains per day.

  • Qualified to the relevant Signallers assessment level.
  • Professional approach, focused on Safety, Business and Performance improvement.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Previous signalling experience.
  • Using a variety of I.T. systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and liaise with relevant stakeholders.
  • A high degree of flexibility is required to meet changing demands.
  • Able to work effectively to make decisions on own initiative in a challenging environment.
