Business Manager and Enquiries Lead
Would you like a role where you will work with the Head of Business Management to provide proactive professional support and advice to the CEO? You will ensure the Chairman, the Board and Executives are focused on key strategic and operational priorities.
You will have an eye for detail across a range of activities, from ensuring that substantive briefings are of the right standard, to liaising with key internal and external stakeholders.
Contract: permanent
Salary: up to £60,000 per annum
Working hours: full time 35 hours per week
Reporting to: Head of Business Management
Location: London docklands
O ur permanent hybrid policy sees us all working at least four days across a fortnight in the office.
You will work with colleagues from the Business Management Office across the Financial Ombudsman Service, and at all levels, to provide support to the Board and Executive and help maintain strong corporate governance & decision-making arrangements and processes.
The Business Management Office help join the dots and ensure the Chairman, the Board and Executive are focused on key strategic and operational priorities and that there is a cogent and cohesive account of the scrutiny they undertake and the decisions they make.
To succeed, you’ll need to demonstrate the below key responsibilities:
Supporting the CEO and the Chairman to carry out their responsibilities
  • Assisting the CEO and the Chairman in delivering their priorities and responsibilities
  • Working closely with internal teams to ensure briefings are received on time
Supporting internal governance
  • Attending Board and Executive meetings and taking minutes
  • Capturing actions accurately, identifying owners and working with the Company Secretary Assistant to ensure they are delivered
  • Working with members of the Executive and key individuals within the Financial Ombudsman Service to make sure meeting inputs are clear, concise and decision/ action oriented, ahead of the meeting, including Board meetings
Leading on enquiries received
  • Managing the CEO’s and the Chairman’s correspondence, including those received from consumers and Members of Parliament, ensuring concise answers are provided in a timely manner and prioritising where their attention should be best directed
Supporting the Financial Ombudsman Service externally
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders, including Members of Parliament
  • Keeping abreast of developments in the financial services and Ombudsman landscape
  • Identifying any patterns, trends or issues the CEO and the Chairman may need to be aware of
To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities.
You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:
  • Excellent analytical, written and communication skills, with the ability to be able to analyse situations/ challenges / issues at pace and develop advice which draws on understanding of the whole organisation and all relevant factors
  • Ability to quickly learn how an organisation works and turning this knowledge into insights to drive action
  • An ability to juggle multiple competing priorities, work well under pressure, and maintain a high level of organisation and project management
  • Critical thinking, good judgement, and confidence to make decisions.
  • An ability to work and collaborate with senior stakeholders, including across multiple departments and external stakeholders
  • The ability to pick up technical concepts quickly and communicate these clearly to a variety of audiences, including through drafting notes such as briefs
  • Influencing, negotiating, and persuading across a range of stakeholders and at a senior level
  • Communicating in a straightforward and approachable way with people at all levels, showing that you understand their situation and how it affects them
  • Writing and finalising documents and presentations using Word and PowerPoint (including SmartArt graphics) to a high standard
  • Being personally accountable for getting the detail right and being accurate
  • Being able to deliver outputs to tight deadlines
Desirable
  • Financial services, ombudsman, or public sector experience
  • Excel capabilities
