The Quality Control Specialist is a key member of the Mobile Analytical Services (MAS) and further Regulatory & Quality team driving a positive quality culture across the UK and Ireland Industrial Gases business.

This diverse role involves the deployment and development of the Air Products Quality Systems and the implementation of innovative solutions to provide continuous improvement whilst working with cross function teams to improve efficiency.

As the Quality Control Specialist, you will provide the Quality Control activities associated with analytical equipment such as maintenance activities, calibration, qualification/validations, and technical support to the European team for analytical projects and to the packaged gases business in the UK, Ireland, and Norway. You will work with the production sites to help ensure compliant products are consistently released to customers in line with the certifications held by the business area.

LOCATION: Carrington preferably but also Worcester, Didcot, Hull, Stallingborough, Bardon, Crewe, Stoke, Manchester
WORKING ARRANGEMENTS: Typically - 3 days away and 2 days working from home

As the Quality Control Specialist, you will

  • Ensure that all quality requirements for gases and gas mixtures are met so that product integrity is guaranteed to meet company and customer's expectations
  • Support the Operational teams to conduct root cause analysis and implement actions to non-conformances and complaints
  • To be a first point of contact for depot managers and supervisors regarding the Quality Control (QC) areas:
    • Raise remedy tickets for all QC related issues.
    • Work on or/and give support in the investigation of non-conforming products.
    • Ensure all the documentations and reports are maintained for the defined time.
    • Supervise the plants to have the required analytical capability and the standards.
    • Ensure the plants have the procedures and the analytical methods required to perform the tests and the operator-analysts have the knowledge to make the analysis.
    • Supervise the application of the QC inspection defined in the test procedure.
    • Implement the QC procedures and the corrective actions related with the QC area.
    • Supervise that the plants can make the calibrations of the equipment.
  • Ensure the Analytical instrumentation is working correctly and meet the specifications:
    • Perform depot inspections to verify the performance of the analytical equipment.
    • Ensure the maintenance plan is performed.
    • Support simple troubleshooting and escalate to Central Team as required.
    • Evaluate the maintenance reports and take actions.
    • Assist with specifying and ensuring availability of the analytical equipment necessary to achieve the required standard of product quality.
    • Standardisation of analytical methodologies and equipment.
    • Ensure the method of operation and calibration applied to any analytical equipment shall be such as to produce data of accuracy and be appropriate to the application.
    • Collaborate and supervise the organization of software and equipment qualifications or validations.
  • Perform checks for new requests against existing analytical capabilities to determine if additional equipment (ie. new analysers/replacements) is needed
  • Develop/propose best solutions on resource allocation, priorities and on accommodating both planned and unplanned changes

As the Quality Control Specialist, you already are or have
  • Degree-qualified in an engineering/science/analytical chemistry/instrumentation discipline
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory, instrumentation, or quality systems role
  • Knowledge of and experience with Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Spectroscopy, etc.
  • Knowledge and skills of the quality-related programs that ensure product and service continually meet customer requirements (GMP, ISO, EP, etc.)
  • Continuous Improvement Awareness e.g., Six Sigma would be beneficial
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Able to form good working relationships across the business and influence individuals to deliver the desired results
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Be able to work remotely and able to travel (this also includes the occasional international travel)
  • Self-motivated independent worker
  • IT literate with experience of computer management systems and Microsoft Office
