Job Description

Butler Rose is working alongside one of our top educational organisation clients based in Milton Keynes who have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Financial Accounting and Systems to join their growing finance team on a hybrid basis . This will be 3-4 months contract (until end of August) and will pay between £300 - £450 PAYE per day for the successful candidate based on experience.

This role reports to the Deputy Group Finance Director and is responsible for the team that provides the financial accounting and accounting systems support.

Responsibilities:
  • Leading the management and development of the financial ledgers and finance related systems.
  • Managing the co-ordination and production of the formal statutory and regulatory consolidated financial statements.
  • Leading the provision of taxation advice and compliance.
  • As a Senior Manager within Finance and Business Services (FBS) you will collaborate and contribute to strategic and operational matters
  • Managing the relationship with the external auditors.
  • Leading the year end process, as necessary liaising with budget holders' staff from other Units
  • Inputting to the non-financial data the Vice Chancellors' Executive (VCE) and Chair of Audit Committee and other FBS staff to ensure production of accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Leading the liaison with Finance Business Partners to provide strategic taxation advice and guidance to individual Units.
  • Owning and driving the development and enhancement of the financial systems and their use, including maintaining and developing coding structures, within FBS.

Skills, Experience & Background
  • A CCAB qualified accountant
  • Financial accounting technical expertise coupled with experience of a regulatory sector and institutional governance
  • High level understanding of taxation within the Higher Education or charitable sector including VAT, corporation tax and employment taxes
  • Proven track record of strong leadership of a finance team, ideally within an SAP framework
  • Extensive knowledge of ERP systems (Enterprise Resource Planning) ideally SAP, Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Proven experience of leading, implementing and driving continuous improvements, including working with IT and other stakeholders
