Fisheries Enforcement Officers (FEOs) lead on all areas of fisheries enforcement, helping to shape and deliver local area plans.
Work is focussed around targeted, intelligence led patrols to check for illegal fishing, fish removal and byelaw offences, undertaking rod licence checks and promoting fishing through positive engagement with our customers and partners. The position takes a leading role in working with the Angling Trust and helping to develop combined initiatives.
FEO’s require a full warrant to undertake High Impact Fisheries Enforcement work. This includes maintaining a high level of training, wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) and developing good knowledge of fisheries legislation, offences and reporting procedure. A high level of health and safety awareness is critical to the role.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Working with a wide range of partners and enforcement agencies, incident response
- Conflict resolution and compilation of reports and case notes for enforcement action
- Working closely with the Fisheries technical team, the Fish movements team and the wider enforcement portfolio of the business
- Supporting others and working pan area to deliver priority work at short notice, including weekends and evenings
- Responding to incidents and supporting the wider team where needed
The role will involve both office and field-based elements, focussing on how and when to best target different activities and requires timely reporting of activities, results and addressing enforcement related customer enquiries.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
