Practice Development Nurse- Palliative Care

Location : Lewisham, South East London

Salary : up to £39604 per annum - negotiable depending on experience

Hours : Full Time

Shifts: Monday - Friday 9-5 with oncall requirements

Company / Service information:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse ( RGN, RMN OR RNLD) to work within a very positive, friendly and supportive specialist 34 bedded Neurological Centre for adults with a range of neurological conditions including Anoxic Brain Injury, Brain Tumour, Complex Stroke, Inflammatory and infective conditions, for example, viral and auto-immune encephalitis, Subarachnoid Haemorrhage, Traumatic Brain Injury, for example, following a road traffic accident or assault and Brain injury as a result of COVID-19s in the Lewisham area. The service is split over 2 Units.

What you'll be doing:

  • Demonstrate clinical excellence, knowledge by working as a role model in the specialist field of palliative care.
  • Implement and coordinate agreed best practice innovation and service developments.
  • Keep abreast on national and local evidenced practice, ensuring the theory to practise gap is effectively communicated across patient services.
  • Build relationships and liaise with local specialist palliative providers networking and sharing learning experiences to support in-house service developments.
  • Coordinate the on development of a clear induction programme of all new staff, ensuring their learning needs / agreed competencies are met within three months linking to their yearly appraisals and support them to complete their e-learning within 3 months.
  • As a senior nursing role model, work alongside staff, in all clinical areas to
  • develop their skills knowledge and practice ensuring they are working in accordance to their professional codes of conduct, national and local best practice guidelines and within hospices policies and governance framework.
  • Liaise with and provide assistance to the General Practitioner in support of the patients physical needs.
  • At all times comply with and promote the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Required to provide nursing advice based on sound evidence and best practice to the multi-disciplinary and senior management teams.
  • Be expected to take a lead role in promoting, developing and enhancing nursing practice throughout the hospital. This will include audit, research, internal and external training and development.
  • Working supernumerary within the unit, to support ward managers and the Head of Nursing and Quality in ensuring their staff are meeting agreed clinical competencies, and responding where individual staff need additional support.
  • Produce clear project written reports, data/activity records and service evaluations.
  • Report any non-adherence, poor performance, identified risk to the individual staff member and relevant line manager. Agree to support a clear personal development plan to proactively address practice.
  • Collaborate with service manager working with staff who are underperforming and providing objective assessment reviewing performance.
