Job Responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Prescription Clerk. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
· Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice protocol.
· Produce prescriptions for the GP to sign in an acceptable timeframe.
· Generate requests for medication on behalf of the patient for non-repeat items.
· Actively encourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections.
· Discuss with patients their requirements, encouraging patients to order only what they require.
· Act upon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinicians
· Effectively liaise with external services i.e. district nurses to ensure medicaments are arranged for housebound patients.
· Input data into the patient’s healthcare records as necessary.
· Deal with all prescription related enquiries in a timely manner.
· Carry out system searches as requested.
· Liaise with external Pharmacy services and patients as necessary to resolve queries.
· Build good working relationships with local Pharmacies to help enable our prescription service.
· Check emails regularly and deal with them appropriately.
· Create ‘tasks’ and assist Clinicians in managing document workflow relating to prescriptions
· Highlight queries to the attention of the relevant clinicians.
· Support the Clinical Pharmacy Team as required.
· Support the Pharmacy Technician in reviewing and updating the practice prescribing policies.
Qualifications:
This role would be suitable for anyone who has had experience within dispensary in retail pharmacy. Experience is beneficial but training can be given to the suitable candidate.

· Previous work as a Dispenser / Dispensing Assistant
