The Environment Agency is the largest reservoir undertaker in the country. In Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire Area (LNA) and East Anglia Area (EAN) there are currently 37 reservoirs that fall under the Reservoirs Act 1975.
Reservoir Act Coordinators (RACs) manage compliance with the Act. RACs advise asset owners about the Reservoirs Act and our processes for managing reservoirs. Through our Area’s Asset Teams, they ensure that we have the appropriate management practices in place so that reservoirs can function as they are intended, in a safe way and with plans in place if there is an incident.
The way we manage reservoirs in the UK is being reformed. The RAC will help LNA and EAN to implement these changes so that we are compliant with current and future provisions under the Reservoirs Act.
Key responsibilities will include:
- managing the contract for Supervising Engineers, that carry out our statutory inspections and provide technical engineering advice on the management of our reservoirs.
- co-ordination of our quarterly reservoir reporting.
- providing advice for our area colleagues on reservoir management.
- liaising with our national reservoirs act co-ordinator group on behalf of LNA and EAN so to ensure areas are up to date with internal policy and processes on reservoirs.
- Monitor Panel Engineer reports to identify issues that could impact on compliance.
- Support and train staff on all levels of reservoir management
- Work toward becoming a Warranted Officer for Reservoir Enforcement
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
