We have an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Assistant, home-based with regular UK travel. This is a newly created role and is a great opportunity for a highly organised and experienced individual who would love to build a new centralised purchasing department alongside a Head of Purchasing and make a direct impact on the success of a business!

What will I be responsible for?

Responsible for procuring goods and services for Trescal UK and Ireland ensuring supply chain compliance and governance. Ownership of Purchasing activities, setting up processes and developing an effective cost-saving supplier base long term.

Duties include:

  • Identifying new suppliers, managing purchasing contracts and suppliers
  • Processing POs
  • Input information into the management system for analysis and reporting to help identify procurement improvement opportunities
  • Implementing organised and methodical processes
  • Due diligence on current suppliers
  • Building fantastic relationships with suppliers, including researching new options for the business
  • Purchasing stock
  • Assisting with negotiating prices
  • Reporting on vendor spend
  • Securing guide prices from competitors
  • Being alert to market changes in terms of cost
  • Dealing with queries
  • Develop and research new and existing supply chains
  • Ability to travel across the UK

  • Preferably (but not essential) working towards MCIPS qualification or being willing to although a solid purchasing background and experience are equally as important
  • Excellent understanding of purchasing practices, and managing suppliers
  • Good analytical skills with experience in gathering/inputting information through a management system
  • The ability to work independently
  • Excellent IT and MRP systems knowledge
  • The ability to assimilate technical information with ease
  • A proven track record in developing a good working relationship with suppliers
  • Able to work in SMEs - an all-rounder, flexible and reliable
  • Numerate with a good grasp of accurate reporting
  • An excellent communicator
