Job overview

We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, committed, Band 5 Biomedical scientists to join us in providing a first rate Biochemistry service at NUH. We are seeking good team players who will work in the Biochemistry section of Clinical Pathology contributing to its on-going strategic development. A commitment to continuing education and training is fundamental. A meticulous and conscientious approach is required. Successful candidates will demonstrate good interpersonal skill through the ability to communicate clearly and have the ability to analyse facts and situations in order to make appropriate assessments. The ideal candidate would be registered as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council but applications will be considered from candidates who have completed their IBMS registration portfolio as part of a co-terminus or sandwich placement OR have completed an honours degree recognised by the IBMS and wish to complete their generic portfolio.

Main duties of the job

As HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be a member of the departmental team and assist in the delivery of a quality driven and cost effective service consistent with Nottingham University Hospitals Trust’s objectives. To provide that service in a manner commensurate with the profession.
The post holders’ main role is to carry out the examination of pathological samples using various technologies and to report or present the results as appropriate. This will involve competency in a range of laboratory techniques and computer literacy.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the departmental shift system roster which provides 24/7 diagnostic service cover for the Trust and users of the Service so competence will be gained in techniques allowing participation in the delivery of the Pathology service outside core hours.
