Your new role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Lighting & Electrical Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Scotland. We have design hubs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Perth, and Aberdeen together with additional office space in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee, Nairn and Huntly.

Our Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.

Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with the Southwest being awarded in 2020 and the Northeast in 2022. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country.

These long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages of their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland’s arterial road network.

As the Senior Lighting & Electrical Engineer, you will play an important part in supporting our continued growth and increasing workload through the production of lighting / electrical designs and provide a unique chance to join a highly skilled highways design team.

The standard hours of work are

40 hours per week.

You will be responsible for

  • Developing designs in accordance with the client’s requirements and relevant design standards
  • Representing the business stream in multi-disciplined project teams
  • Preparing and checking the feasibility studies, appraisal, and assessment reports
  • Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options
  • Producing and checking design concepts, design details, drawing specifications and other technical documents
  • Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring, and reporting of project resources
  • Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with the client and other relevant stakeholders

We want to hear from you if you have

  • A Degree in Electrical Engineering or an HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering plus professional experience demonstrating a high level of technical competency
  • Registered full Member of the Institution of Lighting Professionals or Institution of Engineering and Technology
  • Chartered or Incorporated status registered with Engineering Council
  • Achieved ILP Exterior Lighting Diploma or its predecessor
  • Experience in the use of BS 7671 (17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations)
  • Demonstrated developed experience and expertise within the lighting and electrical technical field
  • Demonstrated an ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
  • Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety, and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Experience in the application of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
  • Proficiency in discipline design software particularly AutoCAD, Lighting Reality and electrical cable calculation software
