WEA have an opportunity for a sessional Support Worker to join our Midlands team to work in our Leicester learning centre.
As a Sessional Support Worker, you will provide the highest possible quality assistance to individuals or groups of learners, in both face-to-face classroom and online classroom environments.
The main purpose of this post is to provide support for students as part of a WEA`s approach to holistic, inclusive support for students which encourages independent learning in relation to personal development, empowerment, resilience and student engagement alongside academic achievement.
The scale and breadth of our curriculum offer is what makes us special. It is our most powerful and important tool in meeting the needs of our learners and the communities, regardless of starting point or educational need - We bring learning to the learner, whether it be in local trusted venues or their living room via online learning.
We are growing our panel of support workers to meet the needs of students in local classes and virtually through video conferencing who come to our courses with additional learning needs.
You will provide relevant support for the teaching, learning and assessment with a creative and supportive approach, adapting to a range of learning styles, and ability to differentiate delivery to learners with learning disabilities to develop learners knowledge and understanding.
You will ensure that learners enjoy an outstanding experience and can participate fully and equally in our courses by:
- Supporting individuals with whilst studying on a WEA course.
- Signposting learners for additional support where required.
- Working with the tutor to ensure support is provided as appropriate.
- Having a caseload of learners to provide 1-1 mentoring support to manage their mental health and wellbeing.
- Developing action plans for learners and monitoring their progress.
About you:
Are you passionate about lifelong learning? Join the UK's largest voluntary sector adult education provider.
You will need to be an approachable, organised person with good standards of reading and writing and someone who enjoys helping people with different needs.
Ideally you will be an experienced support worker with the ability to develop and co-ordinate mentoring activities, both 1-1 and in groups.
You will be keen to help progress the learners journey, supporting the individuals through their education in a one-to-one or group setting.
You will need to have good administrative skills to support the local educational teams and be able to provide information and advice to learnerss to support identification of most appropriate learning programs.
