The successful post holder will be expected to represent IT Services to the majority of the Trust’s IT users, and as such the post-holder will require good technical skills, and the professionalism and initiative to resolve problems as efficiently as possible.
As anIT Network Infrastructure Manageryou will lead the Network Infrastructure Team, maintaining service capability of the Trust’s IT infrastructure, specifically in the area of WAN, LAN WLAN and firewall management.

To maintain up-to-date LAN/WAN and Infrastructure configurations. Monitor the performance of the LAN/WAN Infrastructure, regularly scrutinising reports for emerging trends; escalating any emerging problems and recommending corrective action.
Undertaking day to day maintenance activities to ensure that the WAN and LAN achieves high availability and accessibility.
Responsible for leading the research and development of new infrastructure technologies and sharing information with the IT team.
Maintain & manage all policies and procedures (build and maintenance) required for the systems support. Ensure written procedures and supporting documentation accurately describes and reflects the procedures to be followed or already in practice. Perform regular quality checks to ensure they are being followed.
Contribute to the effective capacity planning and management of the Trusts network Infrastructure team.
Provide guidance, expertise to Trust project.
Perform Disaster recovery testing.
Adhere to technical change control procedures, ensuring that impact of policy or system changes are managed effectively across locality user base and all requests for change tested and implemented as approved by Change Advisory Board (CAB).
Ensure compliance with all national and local standards and protocols for IM&T, including Disaster Recovery, Health and Safety, Information Governance and Information Security etc.
Provide effective leadership and promote high performance standards both individually and as a team, in the achievement of the Trust’s objectives and priorities.
Communicate regularly and effectively through meetings with teams and individuals and provide opportunity for two-way feedback.
Identify opportunities with the IT Projects and IT Operational Managers to implement ITIL best practice into service delivery.
Ensure the delivery of IT support services to the published SLA and develop them to provide an efficient and technically capable service.
Investigate technically complex IT issues (incidents) raised to the Service Desk and escalated by the second/third line support resources.
Head up the investigation, resolution and documentation of root causes of IT problems including severity level 1 incidents (system/departmental outages) and performance issues.
Develop processes and procedures to ensure the IT infrastructure is proactively and robustly maintained to the highest standards on behalf of MFT and its customers.
Ensure the Infrastructure Team’s issue resolution targets are met and calls are updated accordingly in the service desk software management platform.
Actively partake in an even share of the Health Informatics out of hours on call rota.
Daily organisation of infrastructure tasks & standard checks of all infrastructure operability, interfaces, storage capacity, backups and remedial action where needed.
Act as the lead specialist for one or more specialist infrastructure technologies and cascade knowledge to wider IT Team.
Ensure relevant inventories and CMDB (configuration management database) is updated and maintained.
Help maintain the Trust’s IT service catalogue of clinical and non-clinical systems including maintenance costs, SLA information, primary contact information and general support information.
Assist the Head of IT in the detailed planning of the Trust’s infrastructure replacement programme with a minimum 5 year view of required investment and infrastructure refresh allowing forward budget and investment planning.
Manage the Trust’s infrastructure and using IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practice for the delivery of services.
Be a specialist in IM&T Infrastructure solutions advising the Trust on best technologies and architect solutions with a holistic IT methodology to achieve greatest economies of scale to benefit all Trust Departments.
At all times maintain exemplified principles of customer service, productivity, performance, efficiency and responsiveness to users, NHS Partners and all IT Team members.
Identify service improvement opportunities and assist in developing plans in order to deliver them.
Maintain active knowledge of industry trends, best practices and lead the Trust through migration/transition phases to enhance its IT service capability.
Planning infrastructure upgrades, using a technical lab or a proof of concept environment, testing software and hardware often working without reference to manager.
As servers and networking move to a unified computing platform, the Server Infrastructure Technical Engineers will be expected to adapt to the Trust’s shift in technological capability.
Lead on assigned projects as allocated by the IT Projects, Operations Manager or Head of IT.
To take part in the monthly infrastructure update schedule.
Ensure solutions developed and implemented provide continuous availability of services across all sites through proactive investigation and operational support. Assist in business continuity planning.
Identify repeat calls, and escalate so solutions can be implemented to reduce or eliminate those repeat calls.
