The job:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen at Thermo Fisher Scientific for an Account Manager to join our Biosciences sales team to manage the London-Northwest territory (Imperial College London, UK Health Security Agency and Pirbright Institute).

You would be responsible for driving growth in our consumables portfolio - protein, cell and molecular biology (Invitrogen, Gibco & Applied Biosystems). This will also include selected equipment relating to the consumables portfolio to include endpoint PCR equipment, fluorescent microscopes and flow cytometers and various other small benchtop laboratory equipment.

This role requires an individual with a consistent track record in sales and a deep technical understanding combined with the ability to empathise and resolve customer issues.

This is a field-base role, with a sales territory primarily covering north west London & Surrey. You will be on the road, travelling to meet with customers c.4 days per, with occasional overnight stays required. Candidates should be based in the greater London or Surrey areas.

The Biosciences Division (BID) is a $5.3 billion business with 6,500+ employees around the world. Our team serves 500,000 customers with 70,000 products in 180 countries, and is led by Amy Butler, President, BID. The majority of the business comes from academic and government funded customers, with the rest of the business coming from the pharmaceutical, biotech and healthcare industries as well as from the industrial market. With more than 4,000 patents and over 770,000 scientific citations, BID is grounded in science.

What will you do?


  • Increase & generate sales to customers via onsite visits following up with calls and email correspondence
  • Participate in sales training programmes as presented by the company to develop appropriate selling skills
  • Develop, write, and implement a strategic business plan for running the assigned territory annually, updated quarterly
  • Working with marketing and/or technical sales specialists for supply agreements and contracts
  • Set up and coordinate technical seminars, and host and assist with product shows on a biannual and annual basis
  • Maintain and increase current customer database through company customer relations management software (Salesforce CRM)
  • Communicate key competitor activities, trends, and changing customer development plans and priorities, which includes emerging customers

Who we are looking for:

Education

  • BSc in biology, molecular biology or biochemistry (Masters or PhD preferred), or the equivalent work experience and knowledge

Experience

  • Sales experience (any industry, including retail), with in-depth knowledge of cell culture or molecular biology
  • Experience of Invitrogen and Applied Biosystems products an advantage
  • Experience of working within a lab and life science consumables associated

  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Capable of taking the initiative, prioritizing and seeking support when needed
  • Valid UK driving licence
  • Fluent in English
