Job Description

The Marketing Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Marketing Manager in the London office. The Marketing Manager provides local marketing and business development support for lawyers and practice groups in the London, Amsterdam and Brussels offices. This will involve the implementation of strategic marketing and business development initiatives in Europe, and liaising with the business development resource in Brussels.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Business Development

  • Supporting the Head of the London Office in the development and implementation of the London Marketing Plan; this includes managing specific projects and developing and reviewing the London Office Marketing budget.
  • Collaborating with the attorneys to develop business plans and marketing strategies for implementation.
  • Working with attorneys to identify trends and opportunities, and developing new business approaches and targeting cross selling opportunities.
  • Managing and supporting the RFP and pitch processes from planning through submission.
  • Monitoring and disseminating business development activity through various Firm channels.
  • Collating BD activity from partners and publishing in a weekly Marketing/BD/PR update bulletin and monthly Business Services wide London monthly activity report.
  • Ensuring appropriate BD activity is entered in to the Firm’s InterAction database by the Attorney Resource Centers.

Marketing

  • Managing and coaching the Business Services placements during their Marketing seat.
  • Managing the legal directory submission process for London, Amsterdam and part of the Brussels offices and submitting the documentation where access is granted; liaising with Researchers to arrange research interviews.
  • Assisting with the preparation of legal directory Q&A chapters and survey submissions.
  • Managing and liaising with the external PR agency to ensure agreed messages, articles and individuals are being promoted through the most appropriate media channels.
  • Managing the preparation and updating of marketing communications materials including brochures, online newsletters, blogs and posts.
  • Managing website updates including lawyer biographies, recognitions and publications.
  • Project managing and staffing of local seminars, webinars and other events: end-to-end support including coordinating with presenters, handling on-site logistics, and creation of mailing lists, event materials, and post event feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree/CIM diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in a professional services organization. Legal marketing experience is preferred.
  • Prior supervisory/management experience.
  • Proficient in a range of computer software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Comfortable using a variety of proprietary marketing databases such as Foundation or InterAction is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and people skills with the ability to negotiate at all levels to achieve the desired outcome.
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of business development processes required; knowledge of proposal process preferred. Ability to work well under pressure essential.
  • Self-motivated, with strong attention to detail and demonstrated effective project management skills.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate, in oral and written form, with people at all levels within the Firm.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
