Job Description

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 50 law firm to achieve “Platinum Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Shoosmiths Private Client Conveyancing Team offers a highly professional conveyancing service designed to make the process of buying or selling property as efficient and stress-free for their clients.

Shoosmiths remains the largest firm of conveyancing solicitors accredited under the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme. The conveyancing service provided by our Private Client Practice maintains the same high standards corporate clients have come to expect of Shoosmiths and is consistently commended in national consumer service awards.

The role

We are looking for a Paralegal to provide a quality and comprehensive conveyancing service with a customer service focus. As part of an established team, you will have prior experience and knowledge of the entire Conveyancing process to include post completion work and be familiar with the roles of support teams such as New Business and Accounts in the process.

You will enjoy working as part of a team and also be adaptable to the changing requirements of the range of clients dealt with.

As well as joining a reputable firm and being part of a high performing team, we can offer you top quality training and development including the opportunity to gain the CLC qualification in house (once you have met certain criteria to be eligible).

As a firm we place a lot of belief in culture and community, and genuinely believe we have something different to offer you at Shoosmiths. This is reflected in everything we say and do from our use of technology to enhance our ways of working, to the team spirit and culture and our commitment to environmental responsibility and social mobility

Main responsibilities

  • Prepare draft contract packages, all searches, exchange and completion letters.
  • To progress the administration of transactions proactively with all key stakeholders in the process.
  • Keeping task reports up to date daily.
  • To ensure that the case management system is kept in an orderly manner and up to date.
  • Deal with client queries.
  • Attend to any office administration requested such as dealing with post, filing, file closures and distributing faxes.
  • Competently draft non-standard non-technical correspondence.
  • Reviewing and dealing with additional enquiries.

Skills and qualifications

  • Prior conveyancing paralegal experience.
  • Knowledge of the conveyancing life cycle (including post-completion).
  • Good written, numeracy and oral communication skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • IT literate including sound knowledge of Word, Excel, and the internet.
  • Ability to prioritise, be organised and efficient.
  • Flexibility with the capability to adapt to change, new practices and cope under pressure but with the ability to recognise when to seek assistance.
  • Able to integrate within a team and able to work on your own initiative.
  • Friendly and helpful approach.

We are a values-driven business – our values are at the core of the firm, and we evaluate how we behave in accordance with these values through a competency framework. This role is considered to be at competency Level 1 in our internal framework.

Equal opportunities

Our approach to our people is underpinned by our approach to diversity, inclusion and well being. Our ambition is to build a diverse and ambitious workforce that reflects all backgrounds and talents, and a workplace that is supportive and inclusive, recognises and nurtures talent, and has a strong sense of community between colleagues.

This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
