Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Chief Scientist’s Group (CSG) to help deliver important research on emerging areas of science to inform Environment Agency decision making on critical issues.
You will support new and existing research projects on priority topics including addressing the impacts of climate change, moving to net zero and understanding the risks posed by microbes in the environment, working closely with our research leads to ensure that projects run smoothly.
The post holder will:
•Provide project management assurance and support scientists and contribute to the smooth running and delivery of research projects.
•Work closely with project leads, research scientists and others within the CSG, wider Environment Agency and Defra, particularly Procurement and Finance departments to help plan and deliver research projects.
•Prepare technical documents including project reports and contribute to the specification,
management and delivery of project tasks including those delivered by partners or contractors.
•Help to raise the profile of our projects through effective reporting and communication.
The Research Hub is a dispersed team across the country with a core hub in the Bristol Office. We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, but some travel and overnight stays may be required. We promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. If you are new to the Environment Agency, you’ll be required have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. We'll help you to find and train for an incident role that suits your needs and circumstances.
The team
You will join the Research Hub, a friendly team at the heart of the CSG. We help to deliver the research and evidence the Environment Agency needs to fulfil its duties.
We lead on science, research, analysis, and evaluation for the Environment Agency. We identify evidence gaps and emerging trends, source evidence and translate and communicate it in compelling ways.
