Job Description

We are looking for a compassionate, experienced therapist to support the delivery of the psychosexual service for Northumbria Health Care Trust. The role involves providing a confidential and expert service to those patients experiencing sexual difficulties. You will work autonomously to appropriately assess and implement a plan of management for service users, drawing on best practice from latest evidence and psychosexual therapy supervision.

You will hold a recognised qualification in psychosexual Health, e.g. Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy, and post qualification training/continuing professional development relevant to this specialism.Experience of working with a variety of client groups which reflect a range of conditions for this specialism is essential.

You will work autonomously to appropriately assess and implement a plan of management for service users, drawing best practice from both the latest evidence and robust psychosexual therapy supervision.

As part of the continued commitment to the Sexual Health Service we are currently progressing a service-wide development programme, offering new opportunities to support service initiatives across Northumberland and North Tyneside.

  • To be comfortable in dealing with a wide range of sexual issues and can respond with sensitivity, empathy and maturity in the context of exposure to explicit and highly sensitive personal information and able to deal effectively and therapeutically with high levels of interpersonal conflict and emotional issues.
  • To assume an active caseload of people experiencing sexual dysfunction, developing and maintaining robust assessment, referral tools and care pathways.
  • To provide specialist psychological assessments of individuals and couples referred to the psychosexual therapy service based on appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including referral information, in depth interview, self- report and observation.
  • To formulate and implement plans for the specialist treatment of individuals and couples.
  • To develop, monitor and evaluate operational policies, protocols and services through clinical governance, audit and research with particular focus on user feedback.
  • To develop, deliver and evaluate teaching and training to GPs and Health Professionals.
