An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Application Development Team in IT Services as a Software Developer.

Assisting in the design, development and 3rd line support of bespoke and innovative solutions. The successful candidate will be working on a variety of interesting projects covering the full development life cycle.

In this role you will be required to provide technical advice and guidance on the development and implementation of developed applications. You will assist with the design and requirements specifications. Software will be developed on the Microsoft Office 365 platform using Power Apps, Power Automate and SharePoint. The candidate will also have the opportunity to assist in the development of applications in other technologies used by the team including Java.

You will have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues to meet team goals. You will be required to manage and prioritise your own workload using project management disciplines and must be self-motivated, driven and possess excellent team working skills.

You will be able to demonstrate experience and skills in the following areas within their application:

Experience in developing applications using the Microsoft Office 365 platform including Power Apps and Power Automate

Full software development lifecycle

Experience in web design and HTML

In addition, it would be highly desirable if you had any experience of:

Software development experience in Java (J2EE, J2ME) (or equivalent object-oriented language) and JavaScript

An understanding of relational databases

An understanding and experience of using the Scrum framework

Experience in customer service/IT support

A technical test may be required to be taken as part of the selection procedure.

This role can be based in either Chelmsford Headquarters or Northfleet as well as offering home based working. The successful candidate will be employed by either Kent Police or Essex Police depending on the primary place of work.

Kent - The role will offer flexibility in terms of place of work, including the potential to work from home for those who would like to. In the event that home working is agreed for the successful candidate, there will be a requirement to regularly attend a designated ‘Team Zone’ as agreed with the line manager. Currently the designated Team Zone for this role is located at Northfleet. Please note that any excess travel costs from the Team Zone to any future Team Zone will not be paid and applicants are advised to take potential travel mileage increases into consideration when deciding to apply. There is an option for onsite working at open zones across the county.

Essex - Successful applicants for this role will be defined as a Home based Agile Worker - Works predominately (80% or more) at home only working in the office when required to do so. The role will offer flexibility in terms of place of work, including some home working. The extent of flexibility will be agreed through individual assessment with the line manager to assess operational requirements and individual’s suitability for home working. If home working is agreed for the successful candidate, there will be a requirement to regularly attend the contractual workplace.
